Since its launch in 2013 the premium children`s fashion label Hilda.Henri from Vienna has gotten a lot of attention for its designs from milled loden. The designer Verena Wondrak is liberating the erstwhile Alpine farming fabric from
the context of traditional costumes, breathing new life into it with her designs and giving it a fashionable focus.

About milled loden

To make milled loden it is a traditional method of felting wool using water, heat and friction. Clear water and clean air make in Austria from the finest wool precious milled wool fabrics. Naturally fulled fabrics are lightweight, durable, resistant, water repellent and breathable - and therefore predestinated for the use in children`s fashion. Using particular patterns and specially crafted jacquards emphasize the unique Hilda. Henri signature.

Design with attention to detail and a new sense of values

Combined with an unusually fresh color palette for substance of this fabric plus delightful detail solutions such as fringed edges, the result is a surprising new look for a material that has so far been relatively neglected in children’s fashion. To enhance the appearance of its designs Hilda.Henri works with another new discovery: hand-prints by using woodblocks. The technique was once really popular in the alpine region and helped sublimate the material of traditional costumes and dirndl dresses. Today it is rare and only practiced by selected family businesses. Hilda.Henri also places great emphasis on the careful finishing of the cuts: The individual pieces guarantee freedom of movement and are intended as favorite pieces that can grow with the child over the years. All collections are manufactured regionally, following the rules of a traditional handcraft. It is Verenas dream that her garments take on an important role in families’ lives and get passed along from child to child. The young label from Vienna goes its own authentic way in many respects.
